Today is Christmas Eve and the Holiday Season is truly among us, all the way up until the New Year.  Let us remember the reason for the season.  Regardless of your Religious background or what time of the year it is, the SPIRIT of GIVING is one that should be experienced and embraced.  Being thoughtful and encouraging towards others is not only a gift to the receiving party, but also to the giving.  A warm and happy heart is contagious, just like a SMILE!!  So ask not "What will I receive this Year?", but "How can I gift myself, by being thoughtful towards others?".  Trust me, the $1 card & envelope covered with words that let your loved ones know that you are thinking of them, thankful for them, and praying for their success, is a gift that is cherished and used far more than you could imagine.  The Holidays are not about how much money you can spend, TRUE LOVE & FRIENDSHIP is a gift that can not be faked and once experienced touches you deep to the core of your soul! :)

So if there is someone on your list that you forgot at the last minute or you are simply out of $$ (or never had any to begin with), here are a few thoughtful, easy, and HOMEMADE ideas for Gifts this season!

1. Print out a picture of you and your favorite Loved one or favorite Memory
and write a thoughtful message on back or front with a Holiday color
2. Homemade Holiday Card
3. Make a coupon for free time/assistance for a relative (Holiday Cleanup Perhaps)
4. Pick up the phone & call without asking for "favor" or something in return, just convo!
5. Make a coupon for free dinner (several establishments are offering 2 for 1 meals, 2 for $14, 2 for $20, ect.) , both of you eat and spend some quality time together
6. Volunteer at your local Soup Kitchen, and offer to give a ride to anyone who wants to join (they save gas, and you both WIN by giving back)
7. Have a small intimate party, (red box new release $1, box of rice krispies $2.50, marshmallows $1, bag of wings $6, LAUGHS, SMILES, FACEBOOK PICTURES, MEMORIES = PRICELESS)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Share some of your gift ideas, favorite memories, holiday pictures, warm wishes, etc. Here in a COMMENT!!!

P.S. I'm doing #7 on this list TONIGHT!! CAN'T WAIT :)

President Obama signs the Child Nutrition Bill

"Childhood Obesity" is a growing problem in the United States.  Obesity, in itself, is an issue within the states.  Fast food and addictions to additives and sweets are partly to blame for the quickly developing youth.  Well, in an effort to combat childhood obesity, our first Lady, Michelle Obama, has pushed proper nutrition to the forefront.

On yesterday, Monday, December 13, 2010, President Obama signed the Child Nutrition Bill into law.  The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is set to replace the junk food found in school vending machines with healthier choices.  The Bill will also increase the number of children who are on the lunch school program ( you remember "free Lunch" at school, for some) and the Bill will reimburse school districts for their lunch meals by six cents (six cents per meal).  This increase will allow more kids to be able to eat lunch and the six cent increase will hopefully allow schools to be able to make better and healthier food choices.

President Obama kisses First Lady Before signing Bill.
One thing the Parties of Congress can agree on is, "No Child should go to school hungry".  Thanks to this new law 20 million more children will now have access to "After - School Meals".  This is a huge accomplishment, especially for all those "latch-key kids", who will hopefully participate in more after-school programs.  And for those who already stay after-school for extra curricular activities or simply remain to wait on their parents, they will now be provided with the nutrition needed to focus on those activities and homework.

How does this fight Childhood obesity?  If Children are provided full balanced meals throughout the day, they will be less likely to go home and eat junk food and if children are feed during after school programs, parents will be less likely to stop for fast food or order a pizza, now having more time to get home and prepare a meal if needed.

TALENTED: R.I.P. Will Hardaway

I'm From

I'm from where late night sneak and peaks exist on all levels of society
I'm from where downtown J's hits corners and take rest
I'm from neighborhoods where even your neighbor carries a bullet proof vest
I'm from where section 8 housing Which has at least 7 siblings under one roof gets ready for school each and every morning

I'm from Where the mother of those 7 sits home and collects checks and spends it on her neighborhood street pharmacist
I'm from where the trap line is longer than the DMV'S and social security offices
I'm from Where The J's, Doctor's, and lawyers come through daily to get a fix
Not even given a damn on what its mix with

Where boys and girls catches another one's bullet
And is box fitted before reaching puberty
I'm from where my mom raised Seven beautiful children with callings on their lives
Where neither one of us became a product of this environment.

We are Christmas

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending the 84th Annual Morehouse/Spelman College Christmas Carol Concert.  It was WONDERFUL! Spelman College is my Alma Mater and I only went to the concert once.  I cant recall if I was a Sophomore or a Junior.  Anyway, the free concert is held every year and people from all walks of life, old, young, student, professor, black, white, everyone .... travel to the campuses and pack the place out.  It is a wonderful tradition I am sure everyone enjoys.  I really liked one song in particular, and I happened to record it.  The recording was initially made with my Mom in mind, but it quickly turned into a topic I would like to share with you.  Check the video below.

The video features the Spelman College Glee club and Cassi Davis, who plays a leading role in Tyler Perry's House of Payne, as Ella.  Ms. Davis is also an Alumnae of Spelman College.  After 25 years, she decided to go back to College to get her B.A. in Music, which she recently obtained from the school.

The song is entitled "We are Christmas", which was also co-authored by a Spelman Alumnae.  Some of the lyrics you hear in the video are:
"We are Christmas, We are God's hands To care for one another in these war-torn lands.  We are Christmas, the love that we share, Will carry one another 'til we understand.  We are Christmas!"

This song is meant to convey the true meaning of Christmas, which is not the monetary value that we place on gifts.  The season is about comforting those who are hurt, mending broken hearts, being friendly to the lonesome, and providing water to the thirsty.  We are here to "fulfill His purpose daily as we bring joy to all".  So lets do what we can this season and EVERYDAY to be a friend to the less fortunate and a warm hand to the lonely.

Also, the students of these institutions practice really hard to provide this Amazing free concert to the community.  I will add that it is also FINAL EXAM time for the students who participate.  They are very talented and passionate about music, you can see that in their performance.  To make a donation to the school and/or their music departments visit and

Too Sheets for the Streets : Raheem Devaughn & Keri Hilson

I don't really care for music videos like I used to. I don't even watch 106 & Park, which is about the only video countdown show still left on the air.  They just don't do it for me like they used to.  Video's hardly match the message of the song these days. (The most popular music often doesn't have a "message", but that's another blog post)  Anyway, two videos in particular have received a lot of attention lately.  Keri Hilson's "The Way You Love Me" and Raheem Devaughn's "She's Single" video.

Keri's video seems to be either a strong HATE it or LOVE it.  I would say the men Love it and the women Hate it, but I've seen some men state their distaste for the video and some women have praised her danced moves.  In my opinion her raunchy dance moves look just like some moves Beyonce does or would do, but Hilson just repeats them "several" times throughout the video.  In other words, I guess Beyonce is a little more discreet with her "pelvis thrust" dance moves.  You know what they say ... a lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets ..... this video may have went just a little too sheets for the streets.

Watch Keri Hilson's new video "The Way You Love Me"

DeVaughn's video on the other hand ... has been banned from Youtube for sexual content.  Wow!!  This video is definitely for the bedroom and i guess its too much for the streets... ya know according to Youtube.  Check it out below!  Watch Raheem Devaughn's "She's Single" video

Raheem DeVaughn - She's Single

- Watch more Videos at Vodpod.
What do you think of these two videos?  Keri Hilson's video still remains on Youtube ... does the double standard apply to this situation or is it just the opposite in the video world?? Is it okay for women to raunch out a video but not the men?  Did Keri and/or Raheem do too much??
Should "She's single" be banned from Youtube?

ThanksGIVING .. Ways to GIVE back this Season

This week is Thanksgiving! Whats a better way to be thankful than to give back?  Genuinely being thankful requires that we cease to complain and be thankful for what we have.  We can recognize what we have and appreciate it more, when we reflect on those who may not be as fortunate.  In a moment all we have can be taken away by some drastic change of events.  On the other hand, we can make the world of a difference in someone else's life by donating just a moment of our time and/or resources.  Below is a list of volunteer events and some websites that can give you some ideas for servicing your community.

The Salvation Army is always at the forefront during the holiday season.
The ringing of bells outside stores with red buckets signify that the time has come to be generous and giving.  You may or not be familiar with Angel Tree.  This is a Salvation Army initiative that connects community donors with less fortunate children in the community, by allowing donors to pick an "angel" ( young child, girl or boy), and familiarize themselves with their gender, age, and Christmas list.  Donors can then purchase things on the list and drop them off at the local mall.  Not only can you become a donor and pick an angel, Salvation Army needs volunteers to help at donation centers.

Toys for Tots is similar to the Salvation Army "Angel Tree".  However, it is not as personal.  You can simply make a toy donation for any child at locations that are designated as donation centers.  Not only can you donate at your local stores, you can donate online, by mail, through pay pal and ebay.  They also allow you to donate your old junk car.  You can also make a donation in memory or in tribute of a loved one. SWEET!

Think you are just too busy to volunteer any time or too poor to donate any toys or money??? Think again. There are a lot of organizations that make donations on your behalf, just for your participation in regular activities.  All you busy parents can teach the meaning of the season to your children.  For every letter your children write and you drop it off at Macy's, they will make a $1 donation to the Make - A - Wish foundation.  Too easy!!

Below are some national websites and some local websites that will provide you information on volunteering this Season, whether its helping to feed the homeless or donating gently worn clothes.  Check it out Memphis, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Ohio, and more...   - National information - National information  - National information  - Atlanta information - New York information  - New York information  - Ohio information  - Los Angeles information
Sober House  - Memphis, make donations for food Thanksgiving food baskets 901-581-2860

Don't hesitate to begin your own community service intiative where you see help is lacking. Get a group together and take some cookies to the nursing home or something! Warm Hearts for EVERYBODY! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! Send pictures of your or a friend servicing your community and/or ideas for service to

Ambitious Feature: Lil C & The New B.M.F.

Transforming Negative into Positive

Today's feature is a current young professional and a proud first time business owner.  However, he is not a stranger to the benefits of being in business for yourself.  Corey, better known as, Lil' C was recently featured on the History Channel's series "Gangland", sharing his insight on the movement formerly known as B.M.F. (Black Mafia Family).  I say "formerly" known as, because Lil' C is now the Co-Fonder of the New B.M.F., Building More Families.  Check his story below:

Be your own Boss! Read a book, our people
parish for lack of knowledge.

What made you decided to participate in the Gangland series to speak on B.M.F.?
I was involved with that movement.  I received a call on behalf of Meech, asking me to participate.  I really had no choice.  I am a representative of how something  positive came from that movement.  I used to live that life of cars, money, clothes, and women that people dream and rap about.

As a new business owner, how has your perspective changed about earning money compared to the life you used to live?
As a business owner you have to have patient.  I am learning the ins and outs of the business, I see it differently from how a patron would see it from the outside.  Instead of the instant gratification, I'm growing my business.  Success won't happen over night.  Its like having another big bill (paying employees, inventor, etc.), until the business starts paying for itself.

"rats will always get trapped looking
for the cheese."

What is the new B.M.F.? Elaborate on the Building More Families initiative.
I am Co-Founder, along with Meech's Mom.  Its new, four months in the making.  We are basically providing insight and support to kids who have parents in jail or vice versa.  We want to educate on the laws that effect our communities.  Its also a community service initiative, giving back to the people.  Building More Families proves we can "we don't always have to take from the community without giving back.".

What do you think about celebrities, T.I. & Wiz for example, portraying the life of fast money and are now in and out of jail?Celebrities put out what sounds good and artists are getting caught up
trying to live that life.  T.I.'s actions are like a slap in the face to the system.  But you can't believe everything you hear in the media.  I have been
scrutinized for untrue statements, so I won't be judgemental.

What's next for Lil' C, what your goals or aspirations?
I'm looking into opening up a dance studio or karate studio.  I want to build the community back to where it used to be, when "we had our own dollar".  We are quick to say were going to go out and buy some Chinese food or whatever, but we need to support our Mom & Pop stores and spend money in our communities.

Check out Solutions Grill located at

Have to Live with MYSELF

I have to live with myself and so
I want to be fit for myself to know.
I want to be able as days go by,
always to look myself straight in the eye;
I don't want to stand with the setting sun
and hate myself for the things I have done.
I don't want to keep on a closet shelf
a lot of secrets about myself
and fool myself as I come and go
into thinking no one else will ever know
the kind of person I really am,

I don't want to dress up myself in sham.
I want to go out with my head erect
I want to deserve all men's respect;
but here in the struggle for fame and wealth
I want to be able to like myself.

I don't want to look at myself and know that
I am bluster and bluff and empty show.
I never can hide myself from me;
I see what others may never see;
I know what others may never know,
I never can fool myself and so,
whatever happens I want to be
self respecting and conscience free.
Poem by: Edgar Albert Guest

Every now and again we need a stern shaking or a nice kick in the butt, in order to refocus and concentrate on ourselves, our abilities, our goals, and our contributions to society.  It is important not to loose ourselves in the ways of the world, to stop focusing on how to be like the next person but how to be content with ourself.  Every morning we have to wake up and live the day as ourselves, and every night we go to bed and reflect on our own actions.  At the end of the day, in order to get a good night's rest and be prepared to tackle the next day, you want to be satisfied with those reflections.
Just a thought .....

This is one of my favorite poems.  After a stressful couple of weeks and thinking about how to share my thoughts with you guys, this poem came to mind and I am thankful for it!

1st of the Month Motivational : Cleaning UP.... making the hard choices!

When forced to make a decision, will you choose to live or die???

Just kidding ... LOL I went to see Saw 3D on yesterday.  Im a fan of the series, and I give that one 3 1/2 stars.  This was suppose to be the last movie of the series, & the way it ended, it is definitely NOT.  And if it is... I knock my rating down to 2 1/2 stars.  I thought this was the last movie, I feel bamboozled, and I forgot it was even 3D & I had the glasses (extra $3) sitting on my face. SMH

Anyway, this post is not about the movie, but "will you choose to live or die", does fit in with the topic.

When it comes down to the wire, when its crunch time, and 3 seconds left on the clock, will you do what it takes to go for the goal?

When this time matters more than any other time, will you make the decisions to do what is right, to do what is best for YOURSELF?

Isn't the ultimate goal in life to LIVE?? I mean truly LIVE, carrying out our dreams and doing so in a manner that inspires others to do so as well.

Sometimes we lose focus of our dreams, our goals, our desires, our inhibitions.  We settle into routine, while picking up others who are doing the same.  We are surrounding ourselves with people who are living without aspirations and who are filling our heads with thoughts that we are not good enough to excel past where we are.

We are buying things that we truly don't need and going places where we really don't need to be going.  We are wasting money, time, and energy on people, places, and things that are no benefit to what we aspire to become and where we aspire to be.

Lets take at least an hour today, THE FIRST OF THE MONTH, and reflect on our desires and goals.  Lets think about the things we really don't need and the things that we really do.  Lets think about what we don't currently need now, but what we will need in the future and think about how we can swap out the two.

What can I get rid of now, that will help me get what I REALLY REALLY REALLY TRULY WANT in the future?

It can be a negative, dead end friend that is holding you back, that you would like to trade for a "connect" that will be helpful to your future.  It may be a pair of FAB 6inch knee high boots that you envision wearing to the club, that you can trade in for a refund and buy a book that educates you on how to use that special craft or skill you have, to make enough money to later buy 6 pairs of 1 inch heels to later wear to business meetings with people who are interested in investing in your product/service!! DEEP RIGHT??

We can do it!  Lets clean up ourselves and our acts and lets get back to it.  What is your dream?  Will you make it there swiftly, with the way you are living today?

When forced to make a decision will you choose to LIVE or die???

COMMENT!!  Share your future goals and what you have decided you can do differently today, to Clean it up! All comments will be posted on @TalkstillCheap1 twitter page, notifying others of the conversation happening at

MC Hammer CALLS OUT JAY-Z : Watch Video

Everyday someone googles the combination of words "Cult" & "Hip Hop"!! I know this to be true, because by googling those words they are provided a link to my blog in the Google search results.  People are truly fascinated with this world of "Illuminati".  I have had several discussions with others about it and even heard a live Church Sermon on the topic.

Check out the Video, that people are calling a "Diss Record", by MC Hammer, talking about Jay -Z.

So apparently, to me, MC Hammer is reaching out to "save" Jay-Z (in a tyrant, bully, knucklehead type of way).  He is suggesting that Jay-Z sold his soul to the devil.  On the other hand he is suggesting that Jay-Z stole his swagger.

If he stole Hammer's swagger and is now souless to the devil, what does that say about MC Hammer and the life he lead, and the message he put out while he was at the PRIME of his career?

Several people believe that "Illuminati" is real, and if anyone is apart of it, they believe Jay-Z is the Hip Hop leader.

Could MC Hammer now be the leader of the "anti-illuminati" movement?  Do you think he truly believes or is he trying to cash in?

The streets are buzzing, what side are you on?

Modern Day Woman

This and another video about Black Women in divorce proceedings have been posted all over facebook. The original title for the video is the "Modern Black Woman", but I choose to take "black" out, because I do not think it only applies to us.

Its sad, but I'm sure some women do think and talk like this. It is important to note that WE all do NOT!

I find this video quite funny. But it did also make me think about the man's prospective. I know we women can be quite confusing sometimes. But so can you men. And we all have our reasons.

I will take this video for what it is, a way to point out some of those behaviors we dont understand about the opposite sex. And a way to let us see how crazy we look and sound sometimes.

Now someone make a video focusing on the men :)

Today marks one year since I registered  This is not the day I began to blog, however.  I started off with a simple blog account entitled

I also officially did my first blog on MySpace years ago.(you can view those post on this site, archived under my 2009 post).
When I registered the domain I did have visions of it becoming a household name.  I imagined being as big as and Mediatakeout but with a Positive twist.  I wanted to be the opposite of other popular sites but still relevant.

With all the blog has achieved in just one year, I say "so far, so good".  What do you think?
I appreciate all my followers, supporters, and readers.  All I ask is, as we go forward not only will you read and discuss with me and others, but also share your thoughts through a comment when you are urged to respond.  With your participation we can take this site to new heights!!!

With that said, post a comment on this post sharing your favorite blog post so far and why you like the site and what you hope to see from me in the future.

Show your support and celebrate with me in Atlanta next Saturday for's Blogaversary & Breast Cancer Awareness Benefit! It is going to be Awesome!!!!! See ya there!

G.O.O.D. Music : 2010 Hip Hop Awards Cypher

They say Hip Hop is dead, but I believe there is still some G.O.O.D. Music out there!

Artist frequently ask me to listen to their music and to post it on my blog.  I don't consider my site to be a music site.  However, I dont fault them for asking.  I applaud them for doing their research and seeing some attributes in my blog site that they believe may give them additional exposure.  But.....

For future references, if you want to get posted on you may want to sound a little something like this!!

Click video to hear one cypher from the 2010 B.E.T. Hip Hop Awards featuring Kanye West, Common, Pusha T, Big Sean, and Chi Da Prynce.

Music with relevant metaphors and similies, performed with this type of intensity is what sales records.  Take Note!

What did you think of the award show overall?  Did they give out awards (Besides Salt -N- Peppa)?  I didn't watch the show. :)

Bad Press?!? :Soulja Boy, Morehouse, & Bishop Eddie Long

What do Soulja Boy, Morehouse College, and Bishop Eddie Long all have in common?
Kat Stacks posted a video alleging that Soulja Boy used cocaine.

4 young men now allege, Bishop Eddie Long used money and power
to sexually seduce them, as underage boys.

Vibe Magazine published an article with this heading, addressing the year old dress code at Morehouse College.

They have all recently failed victim to some bad press.  One, an artist that is suppose to be known for his "musical talent", another, an educational institution that is known for its creation of "Men" of a higher standard, and the other, a Bishop that is the known Christian leader of a  religious institution that influences thousands of people. Despite their "purpose", due to the current media attention they have received, they are now known as a "crack head", a homophobic institution that limits expression and a pedophile "pimp".

Unfortunately, despite the validity (truthfulness) of these media claims, these are their new names.

What, if anything, does this mean for Soulja Boy, Morehouse College, and the Bishop?

Soulja boy has two new singles out right now.  Does the "crack head" allegation stop you from buying his cd or bobbing your head to his music?

Morehouse enrolls several thousand students each year.  Did the dress code and  the allegations of "gay bashing"  discourage thousands more from applying and attending this year?

Bishop Eddie Long has more than one church and a school, and when he addressed his congregation, the entire church was filled.  Do you think next Sunday it will be empty?
Congregation of New Birth, the day Bishop Long addressed them after chargers were filed.
Is there such thing as bad press?  When we see and hear these allegations, do we really believe them or do we just go along with the times for "goodness sake"?  For example, the Soulja Boy story has practically been forgotten and people are now deciding if they like his new single or not.

Do we take press and allegations seriously, not seriously enough, or not seriously at all?  Or, is "no press, bad press" because it grabs your attention for the moment, increases recognition for the victim, and likely diminishes after just a short period?   THINK ABOUT IT!

While you ponder..... remember when Kat Stacks and Fabolous had "beef" and it was believed that someone from his circle was involved when she was smacked in a restaurant?  Well, take a listen to the remix of Marsha Ambrosius' new single "Cheat on You", featuring Fabolous and Maino.  Listen for the reference and think about why the reference was made and who will benefit from it. Click below to listen!

1st of the Month Motivational: Don't Limit Yourself

Similiar to the story of "The Social Network", everything starts with an "idea".  How you came about that idea is some what relevant, but that is not the focus of this post.  It is the thought that "If you can believe it, you can achieve it"!
A year ago this month I domained my blogspot account to  I remember sitting with a close friend of mine, (shoutout ABC) just discussing "small" ideas about how I wanted to increase my readership.  I was just thinking a few t-shirts and some facebook posts, not really thinking about the full potential of this site.  To me, it was just a small piece of my world, I believed if just one person could relate to it or learn something from it, then job well done.  The blog has surpassed all that expectation.
Not only do I have a dedicated following and readers (new comers wouldn't know because my readers hardly comment on posts ;) ), I advertise on the site and through my site's brand, and I have been nominated for a few blog awards.  I am throwing my first benefit event this month (stay tuned for details) and hope to have more to come.  With this expansion hopefully comes increased readership and therefore more frequent posts updates.
I said all of this to say, keep your mind and your eyes open!!!  Open to new adventures, new information, new ideas, and new possibilities.  We can become so wrapped up in our everyday routine and people telling us the life we settle for is "how its suppose to be, and how it always will be".  Explore new options, go where no man has gone before or take the road less traveled.  Who are you not to be brilliant?  Who are you not to be the next youngest Billionaire?  Who are you not to event the "next big thing"?  It could be you, who's stopping you besides yourself?

AMBITIOUS 4th Feature: Skewby

It has been a few months since my last feature.  When I approached this gentleman, I had no idea he would be so humble and sound.  For a guy turning only 22 today, and has been featured in the Source Magazine as "Unsigned Hype", you may expect differently!  For a young artist, I would say he definitely has the right attitude. He reigns from Memphis, TN and has opened for several nationally recognized artists.  He definitely embodies the Ambitious attitude that promotes, staying grounded and keeping the focus.  Check him out.

At what point did you know that performance arts was your calling?
I have always been in love with music, but at the age of twelve I knew it would be my profession.  I turn 22 today, so that was 10 years ago.  I feel old now. hahaha

What is the overall theme of your music?
Positivity.  The message is "Anything is possible."  It was not really intentional that this would be my message, but that is how I live my life, so it just comes across in music.

How do you describe your work ethic?
Not healthy.  I work 18 to 20 hours every day.  However, that will be coming to an end soon.  After I finish my next tape, I will be changing things up a little.  Its always good to have a good work ethic, but when it starts having a negative impact on your life, that means you have gone too far.

Me in Memphis reading a magazine with our feature Skewby on the cover

What is your greatest accomplishment?

So far, my greatest accomplishment has been getting someone out there to believe in me.  I appreciate anyone who takes the time to support me and my music.

What is in the future for Skewby?
Honestly, I do not know.  I am currently dedicated to my upcoming project "More or Less".  After that comes out, I should have a clearer vision of whats in store for me.  It is in God's hands.

What advice would you give to younger people who want to follow in your footsteps?
Have integrity and be ready to trade time with your love ones for time with people you barely know. Have a great relationship with God.  Don't listen to everybody.
Skewby tweeted, "I hope she takes something positive away from it",
signing autographs at Cellular South's Blackberry Event, Memphis, TN

Do you partcipate in any community service?
I try to be a part of anything positive going on in my community.  Last month I helped raise money for Church Health Care Center of Memphis, TN.  I had a good time.

Don't ask, don't tell!

The Military may NEVER BE THE SAME!

“This is one of the Senate’s most critical votes of the year – and potentially life-altering for our military,” says, Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.
Tomorrow, Tuesday September 21, 2010, the Senate is scheduled to vote on legislation that could possibly rid the infamous "Don't ask don't tell" policy.  The policy refers to an action against homosexuality put in place by former President Clinton in 1993.  It states, that as a member, you can not be "openly gay" and service our country, and on the other hand the military will not openly ask you about your sexual orientation if you plan to serve.
Since the passing of this legislation in 1993, on average 600 soldiers have been discharged based on the disclouse of their sexuality AND the number of convicted felons allowed to enter the military has doubled each year.***  What do you think about that?  Is the compromise worth the exchange (homosexual soliders for convicted felon soldiers)?  Is the "dont ask, dont tell" policy an compromise at all, if so, who benefits homosexuals or heterosexuals?

Supporters of the reversal of the "dont ask dont tell policy" say that it will increase the number of skilled and quailifed military personnel by removing sexual discrimination in the military.  One former sargent of the military (who came out of the closet during his service) wonders, "how can I trust a solider to save my life in battle, if I can't trust them to disclouse facts of their life?"  Supporters of the ban on "dont ask, dont tell", believe the policy, in actuality, demands homosexuals lie about their sexual preference.

Those who want the "dont ask dont tell policy" to remain believe it is necessary in order to maintain good order and discipline.  They believe the disclosure of sexuality, in fact, does not matter when it comes to service in the military.

The Pentagon is currently conducting a study on the impact of openly gay military servicing our country.  President Obama is in support of the repeal (overturn of the law) and more citizens support this decision than those who supported President Obama's decisions on Health Reform.

What do you think?  Have we reached the time where it should be safe to lift the "dont ask dont tell" policy?  Are Americans, specifically those in the military, more comfortable with homosexuality than they were in 1993?  We will find out tomorrow!!
***update*** Today, September 21, 2010, with majority vote of 56, the Senate failed to lift the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. 60 votes were needed to ban the policy, and it fell just that short. How do you feel?

Kanye West Closes VMAs , unreleased single Runaway (Time for a Toast)

Kanye West performing in Red Suit 2010 MTV VMAs

If you are a Kanye West fan and can't wait for the single to be released, don't worry I have you covered.

Download free mp3 version of Kanye West's perfromance featuring Pusha T here (or just listen) .

Kanye has been releasing G.O.O.D. music on twitter every Friday. Fans are now waiting the release of this song performed at the close of this year's 2010 MTV VMA show.

His performance was without a doubt, the most anticipated performance this year. The buzz was all around Taylor Swift and Kanye West interaction.
Taylor introduced her new song "Innocent", with a replay of last year's event, Kanye shockingly interrupting her VMA speech. Supposedly she wrote the song she performed tonight for Kanye.

Some are saying Kanye also wrote the song he performed tonight for Taylor Swift. He did mention writing a song for Taylor, but he has not confirmed if this was the song he was referring to.

The lyrics to the chorus are as follows:
"Let's have a toast for the douche bags, let's have a toast for the a** holes, lets have a toast for the scum bags, everyone of them that I know. Lets have a toast for the jerk offs that will never take work off. Baby I got a plan, runaway as fast as you can."

In listening to the entire song, I take the song to relay the message that Kanye is who he is, you know it and he knows it. And if you don't like it or accept it, runaway. He won't change, and he's making a toast to celebrate accepting himself, along with the others who accept him for who he is as well.

My twitter followers, including myself, liked the track. What do you think he is saying. You may interpret it differently from me. encourages you to think for yourself, and to examine why you like or do not like certain things, as opposed to just following the "in-crowd". If you are #teamtaylor you may not have liked the song at all or the message behind it. Share your thoughts here!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!  I asked for my readers/supporters votes for SEA awards and the Black Web Blog awards.  When I didn't make the Blackweblog awards, I completely forgot to continue the campaign for SEA award nominations.

However, as of September 5, 2010 made the SEA award ballot for "Website of the Year" and I made the ballot for "Role Model of the Year"!! It is such a great honor to join the nomination likes of for the website nomination and Tony Gaskins in the role model category.

These people are well known and Im just "lil ole" me trying to make some positive influence in the world.  So I definitely need your votes.  Go to the website vote ballot HERE, select for "Web Site of the Year" and Shirrelle M. for "Role Model of the Year".  You must provide a valid email address and you must go to that address after your vote to confirm IN ORDER FOR YOUR VOTE TO COUNT!

The SEA (Southern Entertainment Awards) is an organization that recognizes Southern Entertainers, specifically targeting Djs and Indie artists.  Last years awards were held in Memphis, TN.  Over 80 awards were given out, and the weekend consisted of conferences, performances, and of course the award show.  The neat thing about the recognition is nominations and votes are taken from the general public, so even people like me could make the cut.  Check out their website and rock the vote.

Thank you, and a special thank you to those of you who nominated me during nominations to make this moment possible.  I appreciate you and lets keep the positivity going!

1st of the Month Motivational : Forgive & Forget??

This year's MTV VMAs are quickly approaching.  Media sources are buzzing about last year's fiasco and the return of Kanye West at this year's 2010 Video Music Awards (VMAs).  Kanye himself has been expressing his feelings about who WON and who LOST, on account of his actions last year.  He has apologized and hopes to win back some fans he may have lost.

"She deserves the apology more than anyone," Kanye West stated via his twitter.

I assume he has apologized as sincerely as he can, under the circumstances.  One year later the incident has not been forgotten.  But has Kanye been forgiven, by Taylor, by fans, by media?  Can he truly be forgiven if we never forget?

Some say forgive but never forget.  Is it possible to do both?

In my opinion it would be a whole lot healthier to attempt to forgive someone for a mistake and also forget about it, rather than to not forgive and hold on to a person's mistake.  They say it only hurts the one who holds onto it.

What do you think?  She would motivate each other to forgive and forget? Forgive and never forget? Never forgive and never forget?
