T.I. OUT, NEXT your Favorite Rapper IN!!

T.I. Clifford Harris Jr. was released from prison today, December 22, 2009, three months earlier than his sentence. He was released to a Half-way house in Atlanta, GA. He served only seven months of a one year and one day sentence, in a Federal prison in Arkansas. T.I. was in prison on weapon charges and was originally not supposed to be released until March 2010. He will spend the next two or three months finishing his sentence in the Half-way house. In a half-way house, T.I. will be permitted to leave during the day for purposes such as work and medical. This is still restricted living however, but it employs more freedoms than it would a full prison term.

As you may or may not know (you may not fully pay attention to the facts), T.I. was arrested while trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers. What in the world he planned to do with all that, only he & God knows. T.I.'s defense is you never know who is "side-eyeing" you. In other words, he had to make it (hoodly) known that he "strapped" and able to protect himself if the time ever arose.

I feel ya, T.I. but that goes for everybody, we know the story of the D.C. sniper and other serial killers, we never know when our time will be with all the craziness in the world. She we all be strapped? Better yet, should we all be strapped "illegally or legally"? There is a time and place for everything and there is a way and a know how, as well.

Now that Harris has been released, we still have Gucci and Boosie in prison, and Lil Wayne will be entering in February. He is scheduled to enter prison, February the 9 2010. He plead guilty to felony gun charges, as well. He is expected to serve anywhere between 8 months and a full year. During a "routine" stop the smell of weed promoted a search of the tour bus, where a loaded gun was found.

I have no idea what Wayne's reasoning is, supposedly it truly wasn't his gun, but since it was his tour bus he decided to take the "claim" for it.

How do you feel about your favorite rapper going in and out of prison? We all make mistakes right? How many mistakes is too many? What messages do we send when we support these artists, or does their personal life have nothing to do with their music? Do we even care what T.I. planned to do with all those guns? (see above picture) Do we care what drugs or alcohol Wayne takes? Do we want our artists to have any form of accountability?

This is a tough discussion. I listen to these artists, I am a fan. ( I haven't honestly bought any of their albums recently, but I still play and listen) Fortunately, I am wise enough to not let the acts of others influence my actions and thoughts, but what about those who are not? What about our cousins, brothers, and nephews who idolize these artists? Are we having discussions with them, and making sure they know the difference between right and wrong, and fiction and fake?

Think about it! Let have these discussions because TALK IS STILL CHEAP, without thoughtful action behind it. We listen and say we know better for ourselves, but lets note our surroundings and our youth, make sure they know better too!

First Openly Gay Mayor Elected in a Major U.S. City

Mayor-elect Annise Parker is the first openly gay person elected as mayor of a major city. Houston, Texas is the fourth largest city in the United States. Parker beat out the former mayor with 53.6% of the vote. On January 1, 2010 Parker will officially take office. Of the 2.2 million people in the city of Houston, an estimated 60,000 residents are openly gay.

Parker, stated that she hopes her victory shows how diverse the city of Houston is. This is a huge accomplishment, especially for the state of Texas, home of your former President Bush, and known for its practices of capitol punishment (death by execution). Same sex marriage is currently legal in six states in the United States.

This year the first African-American President took office. Seems like we are making progress to diversify our legal system, as well as our world. What do you think?

TURN it UP TUESDAYS: Kierra Sheard "Love Like Crazy"

Kierra Sheard, daughter of Karen Clark Sheard, a member of the famous Clark Sisters, is a gospel singer. She has been singing since the age of 10. Sheard is only 22 years old and still a college student. Not only does she have a growing gospel career, she is also studying to become a lawyer, in the field of entertainment law.

Sheard is also the founder of a non-profit organization, Bold Right Life Company, which is a group of choirs.

This is an upbeat track, of which Sheard confesses her LOVE for God. The lyrics are very clever, and its hard not to move to. However, the lyrics are also very touching. My favorite lyric of the song, "I'm better just because of him, even when I loose I win, so good I have to say it again.." and then she repeats the lyric. Either way, the song speaks on God's GRACE & MERCY, and how you find peace when you let him into your life.

Enjoy this track!

A Christmas Love Story with the Obamas

Yesterday Oprah debuted a Primetime Special, Christmas with the Obamas. Oprah sat down with the first couple to sit down and discuss their experience thus far as the First Couple of the United States. Below is a snippet of the interview, where President and First Lady Obama discuss their marriage and family life before they were famous, compared to now.

Watching these two definitely brings me joy and aspiration, exactly what the holidays are about. It gives me great joy to witness the bond they share in this day and age as the first African-American first family. It gives me aspiration that true love still exists. Its not sugarcoated and its not surreal, their union, their bond, their relationship before and now, is REAL, and when its GENUINE, you know for sure its Real.

I think I can watch just this snippet from time to time, whenever I may seem to feel tired and hopeless. Just as the Obamas said, where they are now did not come easily, there was struggle. It just comes to show, how are not defined by our tribulations, but how they are meant to make us stronger. Although, we may not all be the President of the United States of America in our lifetime, we do have a defined destiny of our own that will eventually manifest itself. Lets take hold of the joy this holiday season and use it to power our dreams and go forward to live out our destiny!

Happy Holidays!!

Turn it UP Tuesdays: "Baby Its Cold Outside"

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! I Hope you are in the spirit of the season right now and forever!! This week's featured song is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Not as traditional and a lovely duet. I wanted to find a version of the song that you hardly ever hear, or maybe never heard. In my case, this was my first time hearing Ray Charles feat. Nina Simone.

The song is quite a holiday "love story". I would like to dedicate this to all of you who are "Boo'd" up this Holiday Season. Enjoy it while it lasts, and snuggle up to this one. (If you haven't noticed, I was a dj in my past life). This song was originally penned by Loesser in 1944. It has been remade and recorded by several other musical artists throughout the years. Ray Charles recorded his version in 1962, and you know how he gets down. He definitely put his own spin on it, and roughed it up..just the way you like it.

Ambitious features focus on young adults that are creating their own paths for success. I feature noteworthy individuals who are trailblazers in their craft of choice. I highlight their stories, first and foremost to recognize people of our generation who are doing positive things, and furthermore in hopes that their stories inspire someone else.
This week's feature belongs to Rodney aka "Hot Rod on the Track". You may be familiar with that infamous phrase on one of Memphis' own #1 hits "5 Star Chick" by Yo Gotti. This is the man behind the beat. He is a young man, focused, and from what I know has a great work ethic that is sure to get him far. Get to know him.....

Who is "Hot Rod"? What makes you AMBITIOUS?

I am someone who works hard and is very humble. I do what I have to do to succeed in life.

What made you decide to produce music?

I figured, if I could think of a cool beat in my head, then I could make it in real life. It was not easy, and some of my early work was straight trash. After a while, I got the hang of things and kept working at it. People began to suggest I sell my beats. After posting my work on myspace, I landed my first gig working with 8Ball & MJG's group, Da Volunteers. That is how my career started.

How did the track "5 Star Chick" come about?

My freshman year of college, I cut a math class. I remember because I woke up late for a test and decided not to go. On that fall morning (LOL) the 5 star beat was born. If I went to class maybe I wouldn't be doing this interview. Who knows? But, for the record, all the people who love doing music, GO TO CLASS!

What can we expect from you next?

We are still in the works for some major opportunities. I have a few things laid out on the table, as far as placements. We are moving at a steady pace and making sure we make the right moves to benefit our future. So all I can really say is be on the look out. But trust me there are a few surprises in store, I just ask that you be patient. (LOL)

What is your ultimate goal?

My ultimate goal as a person is to mold my daughter into the woman I know she can be. As far as my music, I want to eventually start my own label and teach artists or producers along the way. Hopefully, I will have gained all the knowledge I need by then.

What artist(s) would you definitely want to work with in the future?

One artist in particular, I would definitely want to work with is Beyonce. She took the female R&B game by storm. She has great music and she is definitely going down in history as one of the greats.

What advice would you give to up & coming producers or anyone trying to break into the industry?

Most important, BE INDEPENDENT, remain humble at all times, and be prepared at all times. You don't know what great situation may arise. If you are looking for a different route, try to attend some DJ retreats with your work, or a few Indie award shows. There are new artists looking for music. Another thing I would like to give, my own words of advice, don't make music your only option. It is not for everyone, some will make it, others wont. Have a plan to fall back on. Go to school, get a degree, because music is not promising. It can be here today and gone tomorrow, then what would you be left with?

Who influences you?

The two most influential people who have changed my world, are my fiance Jamaica Hedrick, and our lovely beautiful daughter, Jamaya. They have been here through it all, the ups and the downs.

What do you want people to know most about you?

From a musician's point of view, I want aspiring producers to know that just because you make a hit, doesn't mean you are "ON". A lot of people from the outside looking in think my life is in lights. But, I am still working hard to make it. This is only the BEGINNING!

For Serious Interest ONLY!! Hot Rod can be contacted via twitter.com/hotrod901@gmail.com , myspace.com/hotrod901 , hotrod901@gmail.com or visit youtube.com/hotrodonthetrack

Know this individual and/or proud of his accomplishments? Leave a comment let him know he has your support.

Last month on the first I did a post.  I don't take lightly a chance to begin anew.  Starting over is one of the biggest blessings we are allowed.  I believe you can always learn from your mistakes and even someone else's mistake if you choose to.  It is when we learn new things, we do new things or approach things in a different (NEW) manner.  TalkstillCheap.com will celebrate each first of the month from last month and on.  With that said.....
TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY FA LA LA la la la la laaa la la LA!!! (I really sing this when I type it, even on my twitter Ive been tweeting it every morning.  It really makes me feel a lil jolly.  TRY IT lol)
This time of a year is probably the majority of people's favorite time of year.  I'm sure out of all those people, we all have a different reason as to why this holiday season is so SPECIAL.  This is the time where families from near and far get together and enjoy each other's company, children get on their best behavior for holiday goodies from Santa Clause, the Salvation Army pulls out their red baskets and jingles their bells outside your favorite retail stores, adults alike spend that stash of money they saved (as best they could) over the year to buy gifts for their loved ones, churches request order and rehearsal to put together a traditional holiday program, and in the midst of all the joy and happiness spread......
Someone, somewhere, somehow is making plans to be a GRINCH!
Someone right now is saying this is the worst time of year!  People are robbing, stealing, cussing, fighting for sales items and lying to the kids about a man that doesn't exists.  Someone, right now, can not wait until this holiday season is over.  They are promising not to smile at strangers, not to drop their pennies in the Salvation Army bucket, and is definitely not sending a HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you and yours.
If you are not going to be a GRINCH, THE GRINCH this year, share your holiday plans or holiday stories of the past, of how you spread or plan to spread some cheer to those around you.

TURN it UP TUESDAYS: F* You, Signed Sincerely

I am very excited about this week's song. I absolutely LOVE it. This is supposedly an old track. Ive never heard it until recently. The song is titled, F*ck the Industry, Signed Sincerely. The song is by Solange and features Wale. The song is supposed to be a part of a Solange mixtape release entitled, "I Can't Get Clearance".

In the song Solange addresses the music industry and its portrayal of the perfect artist. Basically, Solange is just defining herself and her music. She clarifies her musical attitude and her approach as an artists who does not want to be compared to anyone else in the game, even her sister.

Some say, of course as they did Ashlee Simpson and Janet Jackson, that she is trying too hard to be different and set herself apart from her sibling. As you may know, she recently cut off all her hair, however that is something she has done once before in her lifetime without thought of recognition for it. One would think, if you have a sibling in the industry, that is GREAT, you would have to work a little harder to differentiate yourself. Any who, listen to the track, it samples some Kanye and DEFINITELY HAS ATTITUDE!

Press play on the below player. Share what you think! If you like this track, I definitely recommend checking out her latest album.

"Understanding the facts is the key to fighting prejudice and protecting yourself and others" -worldaidsday.org   December 1st is recognized as WORLD AIDS DAY!
HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system, making it weaker and you more vulnerable to disease and infection.  I know for sure, a lot of people do not know there is a difference between HIV & AIDS, they are not one in the same.  HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.  You are considered to have AIDS once your body reaches a point where it can no longer fight off disease.  There is currently no cure for HIV but there is treatment that allows some people to live comfortable lives.  There are three main ways HIV can be passed from one individual to another, they are 1. Infected Blood, 2. Semen, 3. Vaginal fluids or Breast Milk.  These passageways are why the use of drugs and unprotected sex are frowned upon.
The official World Aids Day website gives 5 tips on how you can respect and protect ourselves and others from the spread of HIV AIDS.
1. Find out facts about AIDS, know the truth, whats myth and what is fact
3. Talk to all new sexual partners about using protection during any & all sexual acts
4. If anyone tells you they are HIV positive treat them with RESPECT & do not share with
others unless they give you permission
5. Wear a RED RIBBON  as a symbol of your support for everyone affected by HIV to raise
This topic is slightly addressed in a popular recent movie release, that is currently in theaters.  HIV is no joke.  Most of us know someone affected by the disease, or knows someone who knows someone that is or was affected by it.  Honor the day TOMORROW, WEAR RED RIBBON OR A RED SHIRT & educate someone else.  Share this article/site or send them to worldaidsday.org for more information and stories from real people living with HIV.

Shaq pays for slain 5 year old's Funeral

"I was sitting at home watching it on the news and the story brought a tear to my eye."
NBA star Shaquille O'Neal, of the Cleveland Cavaliers gave the above statement when asked why he decided to help pay for funeral expenses for 5 year old Shaniya Davis.  O'Neal got in touch with the family and asked how he could help.
Shaniya Davis was the five year old found slain on the side of the road on Novemeber 16, 2009.  Davis's mother has been charged with human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution.  She is believed to have sold her daughter to a man by the name of Mario McNeil, who is being charged with the kidnapping, rape and murder of young Shaniya Davis.
Bradley Lockhart, Shaniya Davis' father, set up a trust fund in order to raise money for his daughter's funeral.  A spokesman for the funeral home where Davis was prepared, stated that an average child's burial cost around $4,500.  More than 2,000 people attended little Shaniya Davis' funeral.  Just six days before her body was found, her mother called and reported her missing.  Video images of McNeil have surfaced, of him caring Shaniya into a hotel elevator (VERY DISTURBING), while she was alive.
EDITIORS NOTE: TalkstillCheap.com was built for stories such as these, to recognize POSITIVE NEWS that may sometimes go un-noticed.  We often talk about the bad/negative things that celebrities do, lets not forget the good they do.  Several athletes and stars work with charitable organizations and have even started and fund their own charities.  One of my favorite books is "Giving" by former President, Bill Clinton.  We all can give and change the world.  it does not have to be large amounts of money, it can be through time, innovative ideas, community service, and/or donation of non perishable items or slightly worn clothes/apparel.  Keep that in mind this holiday season, and even after.

He KiSsEd A GUY & HE....won't ApOloGiZE for it!

Adam Lambert says he will not apologize for his "racy" American Music Awards performance. On Monday, November 22, Lambert, runner-up of last season's American Idol, closed out the AMA show. I remember the show announcer saying before the last commerical break of the show, that Lambert's performance would be one to be REMEMBERED. I recall thinking to myself, "why will it be so memorable?". Now we see why.

Lambert openly admitted he was gay after his season of American Idol ended. A lot of fans thought Lambert really won, there was even a brief call for a recount by some fans. However, Lambert seems to be doing pretty well with an album that dropped on yesterday and a performance on the AMA.

Any who, Lambert's performance included leather, chains, and handcuffs, just to name a few of the props. The show included Lambert dragging a shackled woman across stage, acts of fellatio (oral sex) performed on him by a man, and a kiss between he & his male keyboardist. Lambert states the kiss was "in the moment" and he believes in "artist freedom of expression". In response to his show being edited on the West Coast feed, Lambert believes he is being discrimanted against, because women do these things all the time (I.e. famous Madonna and Britney Spears kiss on MTV awards).

If you recall, Katy Perry sang she "Kissed a girl & she liked it" (hence this blog title) and that song blew up the charts and put her on the map. Is there a double standard in the industry? I admit I was grossed when I saw the fellatio, so much so I didn't even see him kiss the keyboard player, and I didn't want to see Madonna and Britney kiss either. However, I don't remember their being much backlash about it or any request for apologizes from either two. The two shows were also on different networks, which I'm sure had a lot to do with the responses.

What do you think? Are you #teamLambert or do you want an apology?

TURN it UP TUESDAYS : Dirty Money feat. Drake

Ok, so Diddy is back on the music scene and is part of a newly formed group entitled "Dirty Money". The group also consist of Dawn from one of his broken "Making the Band" groups, Danity Kane. Their album is entitled "Last Train to Paris". With this album, Diddy explores his vocal cord usage, buy singing. The group hasn't made a big splash in the music world, as of yet. However, I have heard a couple of nice tracks, including the below featured.

This song is entitled "Hurt" and features Drake. Pretty much anything with a Drake feature is hot now a days. The lyrics are quite powerful. They reflect on a relationship in which one partner is giving their all and in returning receiving nothing. We all can relate to that feeling. Below is the track, hope you enjoy. As always share your comments.

LEGGINGS & JeGgiNgs are all the RAGE this Season!

Everyone loves a nice pair of leggings right? They are comfortable, easy to pair, and form fitting..... on ladies. But what about men? The above picture is a "supposed" glimpse of Chris Brown's new album cover for "Graffiti". In this picture, Brown sports a pair of form fitting pants. They are not skinny jeans or jeggings, jeans that are so form fitting they look like leggings. However, they are form fitting none the less. Although, skinny jeans are all the rage this season, Brown has caught much criticism for his choice of album cover wear. People beliee the pants are too tight and set a bad example of dresscode for his young fans. Below is his twitter response to his fans, or lack there of.

Brown is not the only male being criticized for a pair of "form fitting" pants. A middle school student in Mesquite, TX was given the decision to change pants or leave school. Student, Seth Chamlee, was sent to the office immediately during first period when he arrived in a pair of black skinny jeans. The reasoning behind his dismissal was as to not disrupt school. In some TX school districts the pants are ok as long as they are not inappropriate. However, in the Mesquite school distract skinny jeans are BANNED. The parents of Seth Chamlee decided their son would go home and stay home. He is now being home schooled.

This post is similar to a piece I did on a new implemented dress school at historical Morehouse College. In instances where students are reprimanded for their way of dress, there is not much one can do about the schools policies. You either follow or leave. What about non-students, people such as Brown, who choose to wear these fashions in their everyday lives but still receive criticism? What is then the distraction?

TURN it UP Tuesdays: Nicoya

Nicoya is an upcoming artist. This track has gotten some airplay and featured on a couple of mixtapes. Nicoya is a singer as well as a songwriter. She hails from Texas. This song was featured on concreteloop.com's "Hot or Not" section. I think the track is HOT.

The song is entitled "Superman". Nicoya's lyrics reflect a woman that is looking for "Superman" and questions if he exists or wonders has she set her standards too high. Take a listen, I'm sure you will enjoy the lyrics and her vocals, especially the single ladies still on the man hunt. You will be singing along. Click the below player to hear the track.

Weed!?! May be Your Cure

Dealing with or ever dealt with Post-Dramatic Stress Disorder? Well a new study suggest that marijuana may help you cope. According to a recent article published in a recent issue of Journal of Neuroscience, it may prevent increased levels of stress released hormones. These hormones are released in response to traumatic occurrences. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects 10 to 30 people who have experience a traumatic event. People can experience stress symptoms years after the accident even occurs.

Two types of traumatic events listed in the research were terror attack and car accident. Everyone of the new millennium has experienced the results of a terror attack and can pull up a you tube video at any time to witness a terror attack in action. Who hasn't been in a car accident? If events so frequent as a car accident can cause release of stress hormones, what other instances do you think can increase your stress? Failing grades, job loss, loss of loved one, the evening news perhaps?

The conducted study suggest further research in the use of weed to reduce stress, what do you think?

Skin Alteration, What's Next?

Sammy Sosa has made headlines this week with the revealing of his new appearance. The former Chicago Cubs baseball player now has a noticeably lighter skin tone. He admits to using skin cream. Sosa stated he used the cream to treat the aging of his skin, and in turn his complexion lightened. He is surprised by the attention the photo of him at the Latin awards his sparked. He claims he is NOT trying to resemble Michael Jackson and is not suffering from any skin disease. Sosa was also photoed with colored contacts, which he states he was wearing just "to try something different". He insists he is not a racist but a very happy man.

Sosa admits that the rest of his body is not as lightly colored, which would only be right if he only applied the cream to his face. In a turn of events, Sosa is reportedly set to endorse the cream, which is of European origin. You would only endorse a product if you are happy with its results, right? Sosa contributed the color change to exposure to sun light and light from camera flashes. This would insists that the use of the cream was not intended for skin discoloration.

The cream was originally used to soften aging skin, to make it appear younger and fresher. If a cream did that, plus changed the complexion of your skin without your desire for it to change, what would you do? Endorse or Sue? Sosa has not released the name of the product, but if he endorses it the name of the cream and its purpose will soon come to light.

What do you think about people changing the complexion of their skin? Among all the physical alterations one can now afford to physically change about themselves, is there a difference between those and skin color alteration?

Share your thoughts on Sosa and drastically altering your physical appearance.

TURN it UP Tuesdays : Double Feature

This week's Turn it up Tuesday artists made headlines last week for interviews speaking out on their domestic violence situation. Rihanna spoke about the altercation to the press for the first time during a two part interview on 20/20. In the interview she spoke about how she felt when the photo of her leaked after her altercation with Chris Brown. She spoke about how she felt towards him before, after, and now. Although she states she currently does not have any interests in being with Chris, she admits she can not tell the future and say she will NEVER be with him again. I applaud Rihanna for breaking her silence, regardless of what she said and how we as fans feel, at least she spoke out AGAINST domestic violence situations.

Below is a single supposedly from her up and coming album "Rated R". The track is entitled "Hard" and features Jeezy. The lyrics display the same mood as "Diva" by Beyonce. Rihanna sings about being the "baddest b*tch in heels", and insists that no one can take her crown. I apologize that you can not play the song directly on the site, but if you click the below link you can listen, as well as download the track.

Share what you think.

Next is a track leaked of Chris Brown. I am uncertain if this will be on his next album "Graffiti". Brown has released a couple of statements in response to Rihanna's interview. He expresses his belief in the details of the matter remaining private. Both He and Rihanna wished each other much success in their music careers and in life.

The below track is entitled "Crawl", which supposedly reflects his feelings for Rihanna and a wishfulness to get back together with her. I think the song is beautiful and think the fans would like to hear what both Brown and Rihanna will have to say in their new albums. Rihanna has already stated some tracks reflect how she felt through the entire ordeal, and from the sounds of this track, Brown put his feelings to music too. Take a listen for yourself by clicking the below music player.

Stay tuned each Tuesday for new music not in normal rotation on your local radio stations, and to get a little info about the artists releasing the music.

Breaking down the Health care reform.....

"For years we've been told that it can't be done.  But last night the House proved different."

President Obama made the above statement today, in regards to the house's passing of legislation on November 7, 2009.  This health care reform allows for more government control over the health care system.  In order to easier understand how you may be affected by the health care reform, I have comprised a list of some of its key features below.
  •   Regulated Health Care Market for Consumers to "SHOP" for Health Coverage
  •   Most Americans will carry insurance
  •   Federal subsidies provided to customers who can not afford insurance
  •   Large companies will have to offer health insurance to all employees
  •   Denial of coverage due to medical conditions BANNED
  •   NO more higher insurance premiums on the basis of gender and age
  •   Government will sell insurance (although premiums may be higher than private  companies
The legislation barely passed in the house 220-215 votes.  This is a triumphant win for the House of Representatives, especially House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (A WOMAN).  The legislation now has to pass in the Senate, which is facing extreme opposition, before actually becoming a law if signed by President Obama.
Republicans believe this new reform will lead to big tax increases, raise the rate of insurance and will cost Americans jobs.  However, the Senate has not come together to create their version of a health care reform.
This win comes big for President Obama who has gotten criticism for the push of the new legislation.  But, hold your horses, this thing still has to get a majority vote in the Senate.  Keep your ears open to the debate.

Allen Iverson : Don't take it Personal

On November 7, 2009 Allen Iverson was granted permission to leave the Memphis Grizzlies basketball team to take care of "personal matters".
This request came shortly after Iverson finally made his seasonal debut on court with the Memphis Grizzlies.  Iverson made it apparent that he was not happy playing coming off the bench and he was not happy with the amount of playing time he received.  However, Iverson injured himself during a basketball scrimmage pre-season and missed a few of the Grizzlies opening season games.  After playing just three games, Iverson is now taking a leave of absence.  Should a player, All-Star or not, immediately start a game as soon as he/she is giving the okay to play the game?  How long should it take for a new player to adjust to a team before taking a starting position?
"It's something that I never did in my life, so obviously it's a big adjustment," spoke Iverson, on coming off the bench.
Oddly enough, Iverson had the same issues with the Detroit Pistons, last season.  Once he lost his starting position with that team, Iverson left soon after, and never returned.  My issue with this entire spectacle is the below statement given by Iverson regarding his relationship with head Grizzle coach, Lionel Hollins...
"That while all this is going on, we have never talked to each other. That's probably why it's at this point right now. We've just never had a conversation, so it's probably going to always be hard for me and him to see eye-to-eye, because we've never even talked to each other. Obviously that's what you do if you're trying to accomplish the same goal."
Why didn't they ever talk?  If Iverson found this was an issue, did they attempt to talk it out before he walked it out?
However, Hollins, insist that Iverson's leave did not have anything to do with the team issues he expressed.  Hollins granted Iverson permission solely on what he believes is a family issue that Iverson needed to address.

TURN it UP Tuesdays : Wale "Pretty Girls"

Self-proclaimed "Ambassador of Rap for the Capital," Washington, D.C

As early as 2006 Wale has had a string of hits in D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area. Much of his work is inspired by 80's go-go music. It is my understanding, this artists has produced about 10 mixtapes in his time. I came across the title of this track via a twitter page, looked it up and have been playing it every since. The following track also features Gucci Mane (I know he is everywhere). You can really feel the go-go era in this song. Wale has an undeniable flow that is metaphoric yet enticing. This beat makes you want to "beat your feet", even if you're from down south. It also makes all the "Pretty Girls" want to "clap clap, like this".

If you are looking for a new track to get you moving this week, I recommend this download. Click the player below to hear the track.

Wale's debut album "Attention Deficit" is set to hit stores November 10, 2009.

1st of the Month : 1st Edition Nov.

I don't know about you, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first of the month. Well, I love the first of everything, new month, new year, new birth year, new relationships, & EPIPHANIES that equate new ways of thinking.

Today is November 1st, the beginning of a new month. To me this means a new opportunity to achieve new things, to set new goals and see what I can mark off the list before the month ends. I have always been a writer. I have had a diary every since I can remember being able to write. I'm also a visual learner. With that said I would like to encourage you to write down some goals you would like to achieve. They can be long term goals, but I would encourage you to write some things that may be achievable this month or even in the next couple of weeks. It is a belief by many, including myself ( I can testify), that when you write your goals down you subconsciously achieve them. By putting your thoughts on paper they become tangible and therefore you visualize yourself reaching out and touching and grabbing those goals.

I'm going to write my new lists for this month right now. If you have a competitive spirit, like myself, or even if you don't, you will feel the pleasure of achievement when you can mark off or put a check beside the goals you achieve on your list. That sense of pride and accomplishment will not only launch your sense of self worth but will set the ball in motion to continue to achieve and reach your highest potential.

So with that said, I leave you with this twitter quote from Rev. Run, posted just this morning. "Thoughts are like birds, they'll always be flying over head, just don't let them build a nest there."

Michael Jackson : Is this Really IT?

Tomorrow is the big day (for some lucky viewers today), the most anticipated movie of the year since the untimely death of the "King of Pop".  Michael Jackson "This is It" is set to be released in Theaters everywhere for two weeks only on October 28, 2009.  The movie is a compilation of Jackson's last days as he prepared for his final tour of his career.  Jackson decided to embark on this final tour to show his beloved children the craft that he so LOVED.  He wanted his children to be able to witness his genius in person, for themselves.  Unfortunately, that wont happen.  However, this lovely movie did capture some rehearsals, that will also portray how much Jackson loved to Master his craft.
A Genius.....A Perfectionist.....
The album also set to be released, is a companion piece to the Michael Jackson's This Is It Movie and features the music that inspired the film, demo recordings and two versions of the previously unreleased song, "This Is It".
Below is a link to hear and download Michael's latest released single "This is It"
Below is a picture of my FAVORITE Michael Jackson (Of course I Loved them ALL)

TURN it UP Tuesdays

Christina Milian feat. The Dream "Supersonic"

Say what you want about these two, but if you are a fan of the Dream, I assure you he is going to take care of his girl. And if Christina wants to sing, well darn it, Dream is going to make it happen. He has lent his expertise penning hits for several of your favorite entertainers, including himself. Its only fitting that he set the standard for his new Wife and Mother of his future child.

As a music fanatic, I thought it appropriate to share with you some tracks that I may love that may not yet be in heavy rotation, or known for that matter. Trust me, I have a pretty good ear for the hits, Stevie Wonder being my favorite artists, you know I cant go wrong. Each week I will do an edition entitled "Turn it Up Tuesdays".

Look forward to hearing new music, a hit that you are not currently hearing on the radio, but should not be slept on.
This track is sexy with a bounce. Hope you enjoy!
The following link will take you to a site to listen as well as download the new track "Supersonic"

Celibacy, Why the wait?

Angela Simmons, the daughter of Rev. Run Simmons, has been one of a few young celebrities (others include Jonas Brothers) that is associated with the term celibacy.  Supposedly, Simmons and her Ex boyfriend, skater Terry Kennedy, broke up due to her commitment to "save herself" for marriage.  Her celibacy was one, if not "the" reason they are no longer together.  However, Angela has moved on and is now dating rapper Skillz.  It was recently reported that Angela and Skillz have both vowed to commit to celibacy, TOGETHER. Isnt that sweet?

Celibacy is used to describe a state, in which, one decides to abstain from sexual intercourse.  However, by definition celibacy is a chosen state of being unmarried
and abstaining from sex.  Therefore, by definition one can chose to become celibate at any time, right?  If a person has had intercourse before and now states they are celibate, can you really call them a liar?  Could you respect a partner who proclaims to abstain from sex until marriage?
The reality is......
In today's society it seems even the 90 day rule has become cliche, and one night stands and instant hookups are normal.  How long do you have to abstain to become "officially" celibate?  How long do you have to wait until you loose your celibacy?

The reality is.....
Our President & his family are black.
How does this picture make you feel?
As a Political Science Major, this picture makes me feel like I can conquer the world.  This picture is living proof that anything is possible, if you believe.  If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again.

If you haven't read President Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope" (penned before he became an official Presidental candidate), then you may not be exactly familiar with his story.  President Obama ran for Congress once before he finally became a member.  Upon loosing the first time, he almost made the decision to give up on the political position.  He faced many adversaries being young and African American.  Even the first Lady, Michelle Obama, thought it fitting at one point for Obama not to run for office again.  Fortunately, Obama decided to give the Congressional run, one last chance, & he won.  Now he is your American President.
Where would he be, where would you be, where would our country be RIGHT NOW, If he would have given up?
Reality is....... He didn't and neither should you EVER!
