We are Christmas

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending the 84th Annual Morehouse/Spelman College Christmas Carol Concert.  It was WONDERFUL! Spelman College is my Alma Mater and I only went to the concert once.  I cant recall if I was a Sophomore or a Junior.  Anyway, the free concert is held every year and people from all walks of life, old, young, student, professor, black, white, everyone .... travel to the campuses and pack the place out.  It is a wonderful tradition I am sure everyone enjoys.  I really liked one song in particular, and I happened to record it.  The recording was initially made with my Mom in mind, but it quickly turned into a topic I would like to share with you.  Check the video below.

video

The video features the Spelman College Glee club and Cassi Davis, who plays a leading role in Tyler Perry's House of Payne, as Ella.  Ms. Davis is also an Alumnae of Spelman College.  After 25 years, she decided to go back to College to get her B.A. in Music, which she recently obtained from the school.

The song is entitled "We are Christmas", which was also co-authored by a Spelman Alumnae.  Some of the lyrics you hear in the video are:
"We are Christmas, We are God's hands To care for one another in these war-torn lands.  We are Christmas, the love that we share, Will carry one another 'til we understand.  We are Christmas!"

This song is meant to convey the true meaning of Christmas, which is not the monetary value that we place on gifts.  The season is about comforting those who are hurt, mending broken hearts, being friendly to the lonesome, and providing water to the thirsty.  We are here to "fulfill His purpose daily as we bring joy to all".  So lets do what we can this season and EVERYDAY to be a friend to the less fortunate and a warm hand to the lonely.

COMMENTS!!! IF YOU NEED AN IDEA ON HOW TO BE SELFLESS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON SEE ME "GIVING BACK POST" ON WAYS TO VOLUNTEER AND PROVIDE DONATIONS!  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Also, the students of these institutions practice really hard to provide this Amazing free concert to the community.  I will add that it is also FINAL EXAM time for the students who participate.  They are very talented and passionate about music, you can see that in their performance.  To make a donation to the school and/or their music departments visit Spelman.edu and Morehouse.edu
