Haters make the WORLD go ROUND

Howard Stern on Gabourey Sidibe

I'm not one to constantly dwell on the "haters" of my life.  I let them do what they do, what they think of me is definitely not my business! :)  But this recent act of public "HATERISM" baffles the heck out of me....HATE at its finest.

So what is a HATER?  According to urbandictionary.com, a hater is
A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.
Howard Stern, a popular radio host, whose show was dropped from Clear Channel radio in 2004 due to its explicit nature, recently decided to "hate" on Actress & Oscar Nominee Gabourey Sidibe.  He and his other cast mates joked about her appearance as well as her inexperience as an actress, and dubbed these as reason as to why she will never be successful in Hollywood.  Here is an excerpt from his show.....

"There's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone's pretending she's a part of show business and she's never going to be in another movie," Stern said. "She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she's never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?"
He also continued to say that, she was on of the reasons why currently successful actors/actresses are not getting work and/or new movie roles. Sidibe, skipped school one day to audition for this role, she made each cut until she was finally offered the part.  She now will forever be addressed as an Oscar Nominee (until she in fact wins an Oscar, which could happen).  Stern, played Oprah's entire Oscar introduction of Sidibe, and critized every attempt Oprah made, to describe Sidibe as the new face of Hollywood.

You can hear the entire radio footage on my girl's website http://www.divadishtalk.com/ , just click the link and search for the story (as well as other current entertainment news).

Now if Howard Stern doesn't deserve the award for "Hater of the Year" so far, then I don't know who does.  It's one thing to think that Sidibe did not deserve to be nominated, but its another thing to suggest she completely lacks talent due to her appearance and her inexperience.  How many movie roles did Jennifer Hudson play before she won her Oscar? NONE & she was only a former American Idol winner, before she began acting.

Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinions, however the attempt to expose what you believe a person's flaws to be, in the midst of stating your opinion is just HATEFUL.  I wonder what "hate" Stern possess with himself that makes him so compelled to state the obvious in such a hurtful manner.

On the other hand, I believe Stern just opened the door for Sidibe to prove him wrong.  All of his listeners (who probably did not see "Precious", just to keep it real), may just go out and buy/rent the movie to see if his claims are relevant.  Heck, they as well as Sidibe's current fans, will be eager to see her next piece of work, to see if she truly has that STAR potential.  And when she wins that Oscar, I hope she adds Howard Stern to her acceptance speech!!!!

  1. Sometimes when someone says something we don't agree with, we want to pass it off as "hate" Don't confuse what he said with hate, It's truth and the truth hurts. He only is saying what 85% of the world thinks. There is no way in the world, you can honestly sit there and say you think she can have a SUCCESSFUL and MEANINGFUL career as an actress. Like the man asked, what movie IS she going to be in that can put her in a position to win an oscar? Name one or name a type. And he didn't question her talent, he said she should have won b/c her "current" looks won't allow her to win Best Actress.

As a matter of fact, if it wasn't a white guy, we (black people) wouldn't have as much of a problem with what he said. Hell, I guess you don't listen to ANY of the shows on FoxxHole Radio (ALL BLACK) on SiriusXM, They go at her something vicious. Lil Duval, Kevin Hart, DeRay Davis, etc, all black all talk about Ms. Sidibe and how many post do you have here about them?

The real question or topic should be is it a HATE thing or a RACE thing?

  2. A race issue on whose behalf? I actually do not listen to much radio, let alone satellite radio, and UNFORTUNATELY those you mentioned do not broadcast at the capacity of Howard Stern, for if they did I'm sure they would recieve just as much public backlash. (F.Y.I.Kevin Hart recently recieved criticsm for calling black women "napped headed" (he too is a black man, speaking about black women)

The only "OBVIOUS" statements Stern made were that Sidibe is a LARGE BLACK WOMAN who has NEVER acted before this movie. It is NOT OBVIOUS that she will never get another role in Hollywood, whose to say there wont be a PRECIOUS PT. 2, whose to say Steven Spielberg didnt liked her role and isnt sitting down right now developing a screen play just for her?

We dont know what the future holds for her, as I stated it is one thing to give an opinion but its another thing to add HURTFUL unnecessary statements to that opinion, that my friend is when it becomes HATE. That was the reasoning behind this post, indeed this behavior happens everyday by blacks and non-blacks.

I thank you for your visit and I thank you for sharing YOUR OPINION.... lets keep the discussion going. COME AGAIN!

A lot of people have come to the site to visit this post, but no one else has commented :(
Make me happy & speak your mind here, I know you have something to say :)

  4. Ugh.....people will always have something to say no matter what the topic or issue is. This is Ms. Sidibe's first role but hey you gotta start somewhere....and she must did a great job to even be nominated. I've seen her on talk shows and she stated that she is actively working on new projects so what the hell does Howard Stern know.? She is big/black (not hating but a well known fact) and there are other girls in the world like her. "Precious" is based on true real life events and sad to say, there are many Precious girls in this world...

Howard Stern is a voice, he host a radio show and millions of people probably tune in everyday. He gets paid to say whateva he wants so of course people are gonna listen. But he is merely stating his on opinions and even if he is hating, he aint gonna stop Ms. Sidibe's shine!

As far as Lil Duval, Kevin Hart, and DeRay Davis; they are all comedians/entertainers and also get paid to do what they do. Im certain they were jus making jokes that we all can laugh at but nothing personal.

So I say big ups to Ms. Gabourey Sidibe.! As long as people have mouths, they will indeed state their opinion or even hate a little. But smart people will use that as motivation, do bigger and better, prove them wrong, and thus give them more to talk/hate on.!

  5. I'm a firm believer that its not always about WHAT you say.. it has a lot to do with HOW you say it. Yea, plenty people have called her big and black and more.... HOWEVER, I've NEVER heard anyone go in on her the way he did. That was BEYOND out of order. Even when stating your opinion it is important to keep in mind that people have feelings. He could have called her fat, black and ugly if he wanted to. But to go in as deep as he did was whack as fuck. It has nothing to do with rather he was black or white, he was DEAD AZZ WRONG... PERIOD!! (btw if there are any typos.. MY BAD...I'm not reading back thru this LOL)
