Erykah Badu Video "Window Seat"

Have you seen this video? Take a look. Erykah Badu's latest single "Window Seat". If you've heard the song, you may not see what you expect from the lyrics. But a message, NONE the Less!

Did you notice what her tattoo on the top of her back reads? "EVOLVING". I was definitely not expecting her to get shot at the end. The blue blood at the end spells out "GROUPTHINK". This is a term that was created by a psychologist by the name Irving Janis in the early 70s. Groupthink is the thought that groups of people make limited/confined decisions due to a lack of "mental efficency, reality testing, and moral judgement". In other words, when with a group of people, individuals are less likely to be thought provoking, original, and/or creative, due to a fear of being judged, targeted, or outcasted for being different or stepping outside the standard thought.  The following is what Badu states at the end of the video and below that is what she said on twitter about shooting the video.

"They who play it safe are quick to assassinate what they do not understand.  They move in packs ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another.  They feel most comfortable in groups, less guilt to swallow.  They are us, this is what we have become.  Afraid to respect the individual.  A single person within our circumstance can move one to change, to love ourself to EVOLVE!"

She shot the video in Dallas, TX.  Go back to the 5:27 mark of the video.  The X is where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated 47 years ago.  DEEP!!!

What do you think about the video.  You may read a different message.  What do you think about "GroupThink"?
